How 【During Link】 works
【During Link】 effects stay live for as long as the Unit remains a Link Unit, meaning its paired Pilot still satisfies the link condition. Lose the Pilot and you lose the effect. The state is checked continuously, not once.
The composite form 【During Link】【Destroyed】 is common, and the official FAQs read it strictly. The destruction effect only fires if the Unit was linked at the moment it died. An unlinked copy of the same Unit is just a body.
Playing around it
Link Units are two-card investments, and that is where they are vulnerable. Anything that removes or steals the Pilot, or kills the Unit before it links, gets a two-for-one. When you are the one linking, think about what happens to your tempo if the Link Unit eats removal in response.
