How 【Destroyed】 works

A 【Destroyed】 effect fires when the Unit is destroyed, by battle damage or by an effect. Both count. It resolves as the Unit leaves the field, doing whatever the card lists: returning a paired Pilot to hand, dealing parting damage, searching. You get it whether the opponent trades with the Unit or removes it.

It often comes combined with a state condition, as in 【During Pair】【Destroyed】 or 【During Link】【Destroyed】. The official FAQs treat those as a single gated trigger, so it only fires if the Unit was in that state (paired / linked) at the moment it was destroyed.

Playing around it

Destroyed triggers make removal and blocks cost extra. The usual answer is anything that neutralizes without destroying: bounce, rest, stat reduction, or just ignoring the Unit. If you do have to destroy it, pick the moment when the parting gift matters least.
